Autopet quirkiness

I've been trying to find out how the autopet EXP rules work.
From what I see, your pet gains the EXP when it switches out, and I believe any perks the pet has will influence that EXP gain. Like wolf.

So does that mean I can have a combat EXP rule for wolf and then a mining one for (idk) and when I collect minions they will switch out appropriately so each pet gains their respective EXP? Wolf - Combat (whatever) - Mining
