 | World has 3h20 playtime, spent about an hour on the maths before starting "I COULD NEVER DO THIS": No, shut up, yes you can, find some inspiration and start building whatever you want, you'll only get talented by challenging yourself (and get WorldEdit and maybe World Painter, it's ok to use tools!) <3 INSPIRATION: Idk, wanted to do something with light and space, was rly inspired by my gf's phone background (Google: "Astronaut rainbow jellyfish" https://www.uhdpaper.com/2019/07/astronaut-jellyfish-space-digital-art.html?m=1), might do something more like that in the future OWN OPINION: It's looking decent but I'd do it differently if I did it again, it doesn't really look like an actual galaxy, it's missing some more dark, purple shades and hard edges HOW I DID IT, IN SHORT & SIMPLE TERMS: Started by creating a function for the galaxy's arms I could then place using WorldEdit's //g (generate) command [  Maths Ahead] I came up with the polar function r = θ/(2π), basically a golden ratio within a 1×1 square and translated it to an implicit cartesian function: √(x² + y²) = (arctan(y/x) + kπ)/(2π) | k ∈ [0, 1, 2] to create 2 arms, and copied them over 90° to make it 4 arms(I'm 18 and have 8h maths a week in school, so dw if you're not quite there yet, but it shows that such a "boring" topic can be quite cool when put to good use) After putting down some base arms I used multiple //sphere commands to create the central supermassive black hole Then used //line to create bigger bands on the arms, before that I put a pair of giant slabs below and under the arms, this flattened them a bit Then it was a matter of layering very low-density cylinders, mainly to spread the yellow colours out more but also to fill the space between the arms Finally I tilted the galaxy 4° to one side and 6° to another and put a giant cylinder with a 500 block radius which is 99.99% air and 0.01% candles around the galaxy to fill the void a little Throughout the whole process I was ofc always adding details and manually (read: with //brush) edited stuff that didn't look quite right submitted by /u/Natural__Power [link] [comments] |
