does thorns activate syphon when holding an item enchanted with syphon?

I'm just curious on this, does thorns activate syphon when rebounding damage when you hold an item enchanted with syphon? I don't know if it's a situation like how the Precursor Eye used to, and maybe still does, (i don't super keep track of these updates) where it would half the mana cost for the laser if you hold an item with ultimate wise 5. Anyways, does anyone know if it does?
