Does vein seeker actually do anything?

So now that hotm and potm 10 exist, you can have a real lot of tokens, and thus can make a reasonable multipurpose hotm tree that also has 5 pickaxe abilities. unfortunately, maniac miner is straightforwardly useless, so I only took 4. Because of this, I've been testing vein seeker a bunch and trying to figure out what it actually does and as best as I can tell it does the following:

-Rotates your look vector to the nearest glass block or pane exclusively along cardinal directions
