Long read ahead
As many of you know, relatively recently some experimental changes to the villager system was introduced. Which produced a lot of discussion. But I saw some people claim things that didn’t make much sense, so I started to wonder, who many people had actually tried the new changes while playing the game? Well, I wanted to do it, and I know have! So here are part 2 of what I did. Part 1 was to just get diamond armor that you can find in my comment below. I won’t be talking much about getting the armor here, except a brief mention in how to get diamonds.
But before I start going through my experimental play through, some information:
The changes to the villagers
that has currently been implemented into experimental includes a rework of librarians, cartographer and armorer: - Librarians have now their enchanted books being biome type specific, and a guaranteed book at master level. Some enchantments are no longer possible to get from them.(trident and crossbow ones) - Cartographers have now the ability to sell maps to certain biome villagers, or swamp huts and jungle temples. What maps they sell are also biome type specific. - Armorer also have a complete rework, with too much details for me to go through here. But the important detail is that you need to trade some diamonds(and emeralds) for armor. Still quite a bit less than needed for crafting.
Note 1: in 1.20.2 a bug was fixed that let you stack villager curing effect(curing a zombified villager gives a discount). Only only one time will reduce prizes. This prevents some common methods of getting emeralds. (But doesn’t matter in the long run.) Note 2: It’s likely that more changes will come to villagers, so I tried to avoid using the ones I thought will change in the future. This includes Tool and Weaponsmiths, and the Fletcher stick trade. I only used them to get one set of tools, and 1. More pickaxe. But as I will explain later, getting enough diamonds for them, if that’s the changes to come, wouldn’t be that difficult. The other villager professions might change, but I’m expecting them Note 3: This took quite a bit of time to do. Which will put many off. However 1. I want everyone to go into your main Minecraft world and see how long it’s been going. You will likely see that the time I spent is nothing compared to that and 2. I avoided using curing of villagers for a while. If I had done that from the start, the time would have been reduced significantly. Note 4: I was only focusing on villagers in this experiment. But since I sometimes had to wait for them to restock, I could ease have build a decent base around if I had wanted to. The use of these villager mechanics doesn’t prevent you from playing the rest of the game.
Now to the main part: how long did it take? What did I do? How did I do it?
Total time:
143 in game days. 1.33 irl days. (Remember note 3!) and I could have reduced this significantly if I had made a better method for getting experience, which was the biggest issue through this whole thing. But, a simple mob spawner or mob farm would probably have been enough.
Getting diamonds:
check part 1 for most details. But I want to add that while waiting for villager I strip mined a bit. After the experiment is done, I mined less than 8 stacks of deepslate, and I have 17 diamonds remaining.(some gotten with Fortune III). So getting diamonds is not an issue in the slightest. Alternatively, treasure chests work too.
