How to approach mining

So recently a very nice and wise person whose name starts with Draco- and ends with -vish has told me to stop being a prec eye non and go mine glass. I am slowly progressing since then but like the thing is I am in full glacite, pickonimbus and jungle pick. I will get a gauntlet when I finally hit HotM 6 but I have realized that the mines have way more features than I thought they would(like mines of divan, khazad dum etc.) and mining takes a lot of time
