just joined a guild, chat is muted for 24hrs, is this normal?

Hi, I just joined a guild for the first time today, at skyblock level 97 (about time), and I dunno how anything works. owner told me to type '/g for community' (whatever that means) and while trying to reply through /guild chat, it told me my guild's chat is muted for 24 hours. Basically, this thread is to know what they meant, if the mute is normal, and whatever else I might not understand about guilds
