Laying Out Articles

Whilst laying out articles, its easy to include a caption underneath an image when the image goes full screen.



However, when I want to put the image smaller than the full size of the total column width, I can find no way of including a small caption as shown below with the red cross. Am I missing something, or is this just a limitation of the editor's functionality?
