Loss of Survivability from Overflux to SOS Flare

Hey, I'm a big e man grinder and have always just used my overflux, but I recently got an SOS flare and its so much nicer for mana and all that, however I die SO MUCH MORE. Any tips on how to get more survivability with it? It's because the loss of the "2% health per second" and all that. My only source of healing is wand of atonement, but that was enough with overflux. No e relic btw and also RCM
