No farming on private islands?

I just logged on after not playing since January of 2022. It was a fairly large break and my biggest confusion and anger from returning is to find out farming on private islands doesn't work anymore. What am I supposed to do with the full island farms I spent countless hours building? 4 layers of horizontal farms (2 cane 1 carrot 1 potato) and two vertical farms of nether wart. Am I really forced to spend hours and hours more just to break the farms down by hand?
