Player Velocity?

(1.17/18) Hey! I'm trying to create a dive-like motion for a project, and I need to create velocity/motion for a player. It would be an activated motion (carrotstick etc.) and I would need them to have velocity in the direction that they are facing. Would anyone know how to do this? I'm more of a command guy, so I'm a bit clueless on how to figure this one out.
