Route filter with Greek

Hi everyone.

I have some long greek urls that I need to route to something simpler in English.

Unfortunately I'm getting a 255 character long error although they are not that long. They are saved in special characters in db and thus they are counted as longer.
I tried to enter the greek url manualy in db (so that it is not saved as special characters) but then the route does not work.

Any way to overcome this?
