search animation

When background activity is happening there's often a snazzy animation (gold here on community) that flashes across the top of the screen to alert the user something is happening. I've noticed that it doesn't occur when using the search dropdown to search, but does with advanced search. Bug/feature or something I've misconfigured? We've got a big forum and search sometimes takes a while and it's a very nice UX feature to alert the user it's acting on the request.
