As you may know, the only way to get gravel is to get creepers explode on naturally occuring stone and ghast tear from killing ghasts spawned from nether biome stick, the issue here now is how explosive they are, it is very hard to stop them from destroying the island, creepers during the first night or two of your stranded island and ghasts just all the time after you used the nether biome stick, so here are ways to fix those issues:
