Umlauts troubles in keywords

My forum makes troubles with german umlauts in some keywords. That is a problem especially in the media gallery, where we use a lot of keywords.
Unfortunately I don't find out any concept when umlauts are not displayed?

Österreich works well,
Bär becomes bar,
Südtirol becomes sudtirol

That is a problem for me, as some words have complete different meaning (Bär is a bear, Bar is a drinking place).

So in my media gallery it is not possible to search for the animal bear.

Any suggestions...
