Unpopular opinion:Strongholds are the creepiest structure of Minecraft

I have always been scared of strongholds. In the depths of the overworld, there is a structure that has jail cells, weird storerooms, a huge library and A PORTAL TO ANOTHER DIMENSION WHERE ALL ANOMALOUS CREATURES LIVE IN. Who built the strongholds, and why? This question has always creeped me out. What do you guys think? Are the strongholds underrated?
