User ID/name/usergroup on external page with XenForo 2?

Hi,

I'm currently on vB4, wanting to switch to XF2, but I need user ID, username, and array of usergroups (primary and additional) on external pages (same domain, different directory, i.e. mysite.com/page.php rather than mysite.com/forum/page.php).

I saw this old thread about XF1 - https://xenforo.com/community/threads/using-xenforo-permission-outside-of-xenforo.7585
I trust this can be done with XF2 as well, but I need to know how, before I commit to purchase.
