About 4-5 years ago, I started playing Minecraft with my 4-year-old son. I taught him everything from chopping wood, to making potions and fighting and collecting blaze rods in the nether. I think we bonded over that more than anything else we’ve tried. We learned to communicate, set goals, delegate, make plans, etc. And I think it really helped him grow and learn valuable communication skills in a lot of ways.
His little brother is 5 now, and I’ve been wanting to do the same thing with him. But man… Everything’s changed with all the updates over the years. The caves are deeper, so it takes forever to find lava pools. I’ve searched for hours and hours to find nether fortresses, and never had any luck. Now apparently I can’t just gather gold and ancient debris to make netherite, I have to look for “templates” now?? I haven’t been able to collect nether wart and make any potions for what feels like years.
It used to be challenging, but at just the right level where it was still accomplishable and fun. Now it’s just overwhelming and stressful. I can’t keep up with all this stuff. I really wish we could play the Minecraft that existed 5 years ago. I really don’t care for ancient cities and wardens and whatnot. I think it was fine the way it was.
Does anybody else feel this way? Sorry, I’m 36 and don’t spend much time on this subreddit and have no idea if this is always asked or ignorant in any way.
