Image alt tag in "lightbox_macros" file

How can I make the image alt tags in the lightbox_macros file as {$thread.title}?

When I type {$thread.title} it comes up blank, it doesn't see it. Is there a solution to change {$alt|for_attr} to {$thread.title}?
