"Staff" Item Type

I have been wondering for a while, why are some "swords" aren't actually swords, like there's axe type swords, scythe type swords, and whatever magic weapon that was added before wands became a thing, aside from wanting said "swords" to be categorized as their own fitting category (and still keep their sword modifiers), I was thinking, there might have been one that could be added as another mixture type like gauntlet, fishing weapon and hatcessory, the Staff!
