Why is hypixel's knockback so odd?

I've been coding a duels server, and I've literally never touched the knockback area. Although I haven't modified it, it still feels much better than Hypixel's. Why did Hypixel spend so long on incredibly complex calculations, just to make it soooo weird?
The way they made it, people with higher ping take even less knockback.
